I told you it was too complex for the winger mind.

Not every MOS requires basic or advanced infantry training, especially if you're intending to utilize a person for six years as a techie. Basic training was needed to introduce and integrate civilians into the military. Infantry training was not considered important, although we went through the exercises. It was most important to send a qualified person back to the reserves who were woefully lacking, especially in regards to computers that were just coming on-line. See IBM 1401 and DEC PDP1.
