Well, Kathy ... in a court of law, Reid would first have to produce his "sources" and prove that his slanderous accusations are actually true. The burden of proof is on Reid. Of course, Reid can't prove squat. So, if I was Romney in this hypothetical situation, I would help Reid out ... by providing my tax returns to the judge, and the judge only, and seal Reid's ignominious fate.
MITT has the money to sue for slander. Perhaps he should, as that would lay this all to rest. Mitt is so rich that he has professionals overseeing his finances. He may very well NOT know what he paid in the past.
IF this "claim" actually did hit the courts, then old Hairy would have to produce his source(s), as you said. Yes, providing his (mitt's) tax returns to the judge (only) would shut Reid up, but ordinary folks now feel the need to know the percentage he paid.
