So I've been having some issues lately and it really became noticeable when Live Security Platinum kept popping up wanting to scan. Having never recognized LSP before I tried to shut it down. No good. I tried running Malwarebytes - wouldn't run. It kept me from stopping the processes and doing what I could to stop it.

So I used my tablet to research it, found a solution and tried it. First I had to update Malwarebytes, so I downloaded it to a flash drive from another machine and reinstalled the whole thing onto the infected computer from the flash drive. Then I went to the Chameleon folder in the Malwarebytes directory, found the svchost file there and double clicked it. It shut down malicious processes and started Malwarebytes and started to scan.

It found trojans, rootkits and other assorted goodies. I scanned a second time later and came up with more. Updating Microsoft Security Essentials and scanning with it came up with nothing. Malwarebytes seemed finished, but I noticed a couple times when I clicked on a website link that something else tried to load relating to advertising.

So this morning, I downloaded ComboFix.exe and ran it a couple times. It would get so far, then the BSOD would come up and I'd have to reboot. So I restarted in Safe mode and ran ComboFix again. Apparently it found more and corrected the issues.

You can find ComboFix here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/dl/12/

Now the computer seems fine, but I'll stay a bit more vigilant with it until I don't any more Very Happy
