Hope I'm not about to make this worse, but I've always been able (under my normal browser Firefox) to simply click an emoticon on the right have it show as ascii in this composition box and then as the proper emoticon in the message itself. not sure about bold, let's try. You said type it then highlight it, then I assume ckick the B? Here goes: bold test
