UPDATE: 21/08/2013 - COMMUNICATION - EDWARD SNOWDEN - GERMANY - PRIVACY

No more surveillance: Germans fight to protect data from prying eyes

Some 500 million communications a month were intercepted by the NSA in Germany, according to US whistleblower Edward Snowden. Although not officially verified, this was a wake-up call to Germans. Many are now rallying to try to block further snooping by the secret services, which for them is reminiscent of surveillance operations carried out by the Stasi and the Third Reich. As elections approach, voters are asking the government to do more.
