'Offshore gas plant' causes 300 earthquakes in a fortnight
Anxious residents of Spain’s east coast want answers after the government admitted there was a link between hundreds of minor earthquakes and an offshore gas storage scheme. The Castor plant is using an old oil field’s depleted underwater reservoir in a project designed to create a liquefied gas reserve equivalent to 30% of Spain’s needs. But 300 tremors in the space of just two weeks has left locals terrified of what might happen next.
