Fired Lesbian Police Chief Rehired
The town of Latta, South Carolina, voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to change its power structure, moving to strip its mayor of the right to hire and fire a police chief and giving the authority to its town council. The vote came as part of an effort to reinstate former Police Chief Crystal Moore. Moore was fired two months ago by the town’s mayor, Earl Bullard, and many believed it had to with her being a lesbian. The council says its first act will be to reinstate Moore. “I’m ecstatic. Words can’t describe,” Moore said about the vote.
