Captive U.S. Journalist Freed in Somalia
German-American journalist Michael Scott Moore has been freed after being held captive in Somalia for two-and-a-half years. Moore was abducted in the Somali city of Galkayo in January 2012, when he was doing research for a book on piracy. Both German and U.S. officials worked on Moore’s release. He was flown to the Somali capital on Tuesday and has been taken for medical and psychological evaluations. “We’re thrilled that he and his family can be reunited at last,” said Jon Sawyer, executive director of the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, which gave Moore a grant for his Somalia reporting.
