The weather was great this weekend in Southern Germany. Yesterday I visited both the Porsche and the Mercedes Benz museums. Today, one of the other people on our team had rented a car and he had never been Switzerland before (I had been there maybe 25 years ago or so) so we decided to drive down to Zurich, which is only about 220km (136 miles) from Stuttgart. On the autobahn it was about a 2 hour or so drive. The problem was that when we got there our Euro's were no good as Switzerland is not part of the EU so had to stop by an ATM and take out some cash (the exchange rate between US dollars and Swiss Francs is almost 1:1). We walked around Zurich for a couple of hours, and had a light lunch in the "Jules Verne Panorama Bar'...
...where the view of the city was stunning...
After a couple of hours we decided to head further South to Lucerne as it was closer to the Alps. It was only another 90km down the road, so off we went, and it was well worth the time as Lucerne is a really beautiful city on the shore of a lake which runs right up to the Alps. The architecture was much more old world like and in fact we at dinner in restaurant in what they call the Old City district...
This is the restaurant that we ate at (when we saw this facade we just had to check it out):
Anyway, we got back to Stuttgart around 9:30pm. All in all it was a great day off and the weather cooperated all the way except for a little fog near the Swiss border in the morning.
