Darren Wilson, Officer in Ferguson Shooting, Is Said to Resign From Police Dept.

The officer cleared on Monday by a grand jury in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager resigned from the Police Department in Ferguson, Mo., on Saturday night, The Associated Press reported.

The resignation of the officer, Darren Wilson, capped a day of protests and an organized march over the fatal shooting of the teenager, Michael Brown, in August.

Officer Wilson, who had been with the force for three years, cited security fears in his resignation letter, which was released by his lawyer, according to the news service.

Ferguson’s mayor and city attorney said they had not been notified of the resignation.
