Hi Clo - By this,do you mean the schools were observing Jewish holidays, or was it the entire State of New York doing the "observing"?

I ask cause when I went to school in MD - we did not have any Jewish days off, and as far as I remember - here in SoCal - the schools don't let kids out for Jewish holidays. OCU may correct me if I'm wrong on this last.

In the 60's Mom decided to allow us to 'observe' St. Patrick's Day after noticing all of the Jewish holidays that were observed. ;))

This was after she finally took us out of parochial school & we were in public school.
