Ted Cruz opposes the 'Dream Act' yet his father and other relatives from Cuba were able to come to America and get immediate legal status, a sort of 'dream act' for Cubans.
And something else that he plays down is the fact that his father, while he was still in Cuba, actually fought with Fidel Castro against the government of Cuba and he claims that his father only fled the country after he learned that Castro was a Communist, as if that topic had never come-up while he was out there in the jungle shooting Cuban soldiers and supporters of Batista.
Also, it's not clear, but it's possible that his parents had, for all intents and purposes, immigrated to Canada before Ted was born. His father didn't just go there to work in the oil fields, rather he and his wife started a seismic data collection and analysis company (both of his parents have degrees in mathematics) in Canada and operated it for close to 5 years and only returned to the US after a slump in oil prices forced them to shut down their company in 1974.
Even if he makes it through the primary process, there is no way in hell that he could win a general election with the kind of baggage that he's going to bring to the table. His pandering to the base is so thinly veiled that it's akin to using a soap bubble as a condom.
