Two poll show by margins of 60% & 55% support them.
WASHINGTON — A majority of Americans in two polls say the federal government should continue to fund Planned Parenthood despite Republican efforts to cut off U.S. support for the women's health care provider.
In a CBS News/New York Times survey, 55 percent supported funding the group while 36 percent opposed it. More than half of those who did not want to fund Planned Parenthood, 53 percent, said it was not worth shutting down the government in order to ensure that no federal money was spent on the organization.
Sixty percent of respondents in a Pew Research Center poll said Planned Parenthood funding should be part of any budget agreement, with 32 percent demanding that the government end support.
The two polls followed surveys by Quinnipiac University and NBC News/Wall Street Journal that also found support for Planned Parenthood and opposition to shutting down the government over the issue.
