In a case of being in the right place at the right time, a journalist from Mexico was able to record an amazing incident at the U.S- Mexico Border.
Caroling Rocha, journalist for Azteca Noticias, was in Nogales, Ariz., March 16, recording the U.S. side of the border fence to be used in her report of the U.S. Border Patrol’s use of force.
While the camera was running, Rocha noticed two men dressed in black t-shirts and jeans climbing down the fence.
The men each had an oversized backpack, which may have contained drugs. Rocha recorded them as they went behind some bushes and appeared to be talking on a phone.
When the men realized Rocha was recording them, one of the men said, “Don’t record!”
Telling the men she was doing her job, the journalist continued to record them as they climbed the fence, returning to Mexico.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Rocha said, in Spanish, “It was shocking. This is happening in front of me? And we didn’t stop recording.”
Rocha expressed shock at how quickly the two men were able to climb the wall, saying they were gone in seconds.
She also reported three U.S. Border Patrol trucks were nearby during the incident; however, no one approached the men.
Mark Landess, spokesperson for the Border Patrol, concedes smugglers crossing the fence is not an uncommon occurrence, especially near a busy drug smuggling corridor, such as Nogales.
He went on to say it’s impossible to know why the agents did not respond to the incident.
Landers said, “They might be waiting for something else to happen. There’s no way to make an educated comment on that.”

Realist - Everybody in America is soft, and hates conflict. The cure for this, both in politics and social life, is the same -- hardihood. Give them raw truth.
