Clinton camp: Congrats Bernie, but you can't win
By Evelyn Rupert
Hillary Clinton congratulated rival Bernie Sanders on his Saturday victory in Wyoming but reminded him of her “nearly insurmountable lead” in delegates.
"We congratulate Senator Sanders on a spirited campaign in Wyoming. Outperforming expectations, Hillary Clinton tied in pledged delegates today and now leads Senator Sanders by approximately 220 pledged delegates nationwide,” campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement.
“Thanks to the help of thousands of volunteers, Hillary is winning the popular vote by almost 2.4 million and has a nearly insurmountable lead in pledged delegates that will become harder and harder to overcome after each contest.”
Sanders won more than 55 percent of the vote in Saturday’s Wyoming caucuses, but will split the state’s 14 delegates evenly with Clinton.
His recent winning streak has awarded him a modest bump in delegates, but Clinton is expecting a major boost after New York’s primary on April 19.
Including the Wyoming results, Clinton has 1,287 pledged delegates to Sanders’s 1,037. But she leads him in superdelegates by 438, according to the Associated Press.
