Today is my wife's birthday and it's one of those biggies, in this case, 70 (I'm still only 68 ).
If that wasn't bad enough, while talking to one of her cousins who called to wish her a Happy Birthday, and who turns 70 herself in a few months, she came to the realization that she's the oldest person in her extended family, that is from her maternal grandmother on down (she has no knowledge of the fraternal side of her family as she was 17 when she learned that the man whom she thought was her father was not and it was a few more years before she even learned what her real father's last name was as she doesn't have a birth certificate and no one in her family ever told her anything that would have helped her to find him).
Her mother was one of 13 siblings and was the last of them to die (at age 90, a year ago tomorrow) so there are only cousins left, and during this conversation today her and her cousin determined that of all the dozens and dozens of living cousins around the country, that my wife is now the oldest. As for me, my birthday is in August and in my family, on both my mother's and father's side, I'm #4, one cousin on my father's side and 2 cousins on my mother's side are older than I am.
Anyway, I've already gotten her a couple dozen Red Roses and I'm taking her out for dinner tonight at our favorite restaurant so that should dull the pain somewhat
