About Charcoal forging and welding

One of the sites I visited warned specifically about
the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning while trying to
forge / weld with charcoal - or coal for that matter.

It also warned about 'burning' things with chrome
or other materials plated on the iron or steel. As in
many of the materials so plated are highly carcinogenic.

But it does look like one could build a simple forge
to use charcoal (made by oneself) to forge and weld
scrap iron pieces.
