...it is traditional when ya take a job in the presidents cabinet (any president) ya hands over a signed but undated resignation. It save them the trouble and embarassment of firing ya if things go bad.

When the President of the United States tells you to resign, you resign. It's either that or get fired. There's nothing admirable about it.

Now, if he resigned of his own volition, then yeah, there might be. But that's not the story I'm hearing.
