Liberals are like a "Slinky". Totally useless, but somehow ya can't help but smile when you see one tumble down a flight of stairs!

re: "Can't believe you made this a generic question DE. I am hammered.............."

You ARE the most obvious one who might have some suggestions. But, if you remember, micro has also had considerable experience with cars recently. How long has it been... a year or so?... since he sold one.

I'm just wondering, with regard to reliability, what makes and models of used cars would be good starter vehicles for a new driver. I don't care how fast the new Mustangs are or what sort of mileage Joey would get with a Smart car. I just need some suggestions so I can avoid the real dogs and, hopefully, get my boy into something that will last him through four years of college. After all, he could be going to school fifteen hours away from me. I'd rather not buy something and then find out a few months later that I bought him something that's notorious for flaking out just a few thousand miles later.

That wouldn't happen anyway. Before I buy, I'll read up. I'd hoped the board regulars could save me some time, though, by letting me know their personal favorites... or cars to avoid.
