keystone,

this will likely be the first and last time I ever respond to anything you write because mostly you and your cadre of fruitcakes are so far from reality that it is a waste of time to even try to reason with them.

A word to you sir. You are now on a board where HISTORY is actually studied and READ by many here who actually believe in education. Decomp, myself, and I am sure Beldin and Monkeytrots and Zim are likely all students of the Civil War.

I live in the North just across the dividing line of the North and South. My family roots are Pennsylvania and there has been a member of my family on this continent and in these colonies since the mid 1700's.

I have family who fought with the Bucktails in the Civil War and were killed in battle.

REASONS for men enlisting to fight or being drafted to fight are often different than what some Historians say they are. The only reasons that count are the ones belonging to those who actually are doing the fighting.
WHY?

Because it is the EFFORTS of those soldiers and the zeal they have to succeed for the CAUSE and REASON that THEY are fighting for which decides how fiercely they will fight to win that engagement. There is always good and bad and mediocre leadership from officers and Generals. But it is the actual fighting MEN whose beliefs have them there that ultimately determine the outcomes of fights and battles.

Consequently, after reading approximately five hundred books by all kinds of authors on the Civil War, teaching it to Advanced Placement students in High School here, and still filling up bookcases with newly acquired books on that war, my views are going to be different from what many others say.

I will only comment on this: that the SOUTH WOULD HAVE won the war if they had one third the resources that the North had.

I disagree it was a tragedy. It was inevitability due to the wrong and terrible practice of SLAVERY, wherever it occurs in the world. THIS was brewing in Congress for a long time to the point that for a new territory to be admitted as a new STATE, it had to be determined and negotiated whether it was going to be a FREE STATE or a SLAVE STATE. THAT had the northern and southern politicians at odds with each other for a long time. SO what was the real root cause of the war that had been festering for so long and each President before Lincoln wrestled with but never made a decision to do away with it and kicked that can down the road until the 16th President of the United States acted on it, BUT, only after the South Seceded. WHY did the secede? The books will tell you states rights?
What right? To determine their own destiny as to whether they can be slave holders or not without interference from the other states.

Slavery was at the core of the Civil War from the beginning, though it was not what originally at the beginning of the war that sparked it.

Now, Decomp and I have disagreed over this before and that is perfectly fine.

However, in yankeeland where you come from , and you claim you don;t talk like that or the people there do not, you are freaking crazy and dead wrong.

Do I personally talk like that? No. Does that mean nobody else does? No.

Your head is in the sand with that comment.
What you all do talk on your chosen board you obviously feel comfortable to be on, is exactly what you described Ribit's words as being. In fact, your words back to him were worse than the ones you are berating him over.

WHO cares about inventing all those things. You think the Southern Engineers and professionals and entrepreneurs didn't invent anything worthwhile?

The Phrase UNITED STATES means just that, United, as one. So yes, as a nation we share the same foundings as Colonists and after the Revolutionary War we became STATES, one nation.

I owuld not give you a plugged nickel for the east coast northern states or the west coast states either.

You all are living on borrowed moneys and European socialistic programs doomed to fail and cost taxpayers more and more money. You all deserve each other.

In fact, I wish you would join your cousins on the west coast and become your own country.

That means you cannot borrow money or get tax money from the rest of us to bail out your stupid economies and even more radical politicians.

Of course in a few years many of you will have ARABIC as your State language and you will become absorbed in to the Muslim world as you are taken over and are too blind to see what is happening.

Hopefully you MIGHT be insightful enough to see the difference in response from here than what ANY of us would get over on the freedom from further thought board, version 3. Version 3 is just more radical than the previous 2.

Just letting you know if you think northerners don't talk like that you need to get out more often. Actually, lots of northerners talk much worse than that...

Titties and Beer. We don't talk shit like that up here in Yankeeland.

Try and remember up here the Civi War is taught as the greatest tragedy in our history.
Union Forever was never a battle cry. It was a promise.

There is no difference between a New Yorker and a Georgian. Your history is mine.
