...I found a short in a neighbors car by cutting the straps holding the harness together and determining which one had the ground on it and then followed that wire til I found out where the ground was. The car had been wrecked and a front fender replaced at some point in the past. The ground was where the lamp lead was wired directly to the ground side of the headlight.

Hey Nemo,
Can you get the wiring diagrams for those things?

If it's a solid short to ground they aren't that hard
to fix (if one has the wiring diagram and can find
the 'right wires'.) Find both ends of the shorted
wire, disconnecting both ends and verifying that they
are the same wire. Cut that one out and run a new
wire along the harness. Tape everything up real good
and done.

Also, it might be a good idea to inspect the harness
looking for where it got crushed. Find the crush
point, open the harness and inspect the wires inside.
Tape up or replace any wires crushed or cut.

Electrical is not that bad. (But do remember to
disconnect the battery first.)

Zim.
