The key to winning the future is the old tobacco company model – hook ‘em when they’re young. Young minds are easy to indoctrinate into anything through the education system because of the unique position educators hold as purveyors of important information.

Realist - Everybody in America is soft, and hates conflict. The cure for this, both in politics and social life, is the same -- hardihood. Give them raw truth.

They’re Coming For Your Children

Derek Hunter

Major cities along the East Coast may not have gotten the snowstorm meteorologists predicted this week, but every day snowflakes fly across the country on college campuses.

These delicate student loan machines melt at the prospect of their “safe spaces” being invaded by things that are perfectly normal. We’re still a few years away from these participation-ribbon recipients even coming close to sniffing the reins of power, but if and when they do, we are screwed.

I didn’t graduate college all that long ago, (December 2000, to be exact), but the culture on campuses has changed so dramatically in those years that it’s akin to when the Soviet Union fell, only in reverse.

Liberals have always lamented the fall of communism, the failure of which is ignored in their glowing affection for the island prison of Cuba. Rather than accept that their ideology simply does not work, they cling to the belief that although it may not have worked so far, that’s only because they weren’t the ones implementing it. There’s a joke about the definition of insanity in there somewhere; I’ll leave it to you to make.

Still, there is no place closer to a totalitarian police state in the United States than the college campus. Except, perhaps, public high schools.

The key to winning the future is the old tobacco company model – hook ‘em when they’re young. Young minds are easy to indoctrinate into anything through the education system because of the unique position educators hold as purveyors of important information.

Parents don’t usually send their kids to kindergarten telling them not to believe anything their teacher tells them. Nor are parents aware of every message conveyed to their children in school. Occasionally, yes, but all would be impossible unless they attended school with their child.

Even if parents were to attend occasional classes, the propaganda would be difficult to notice. That’s how indoctrination into left-wing ideology works – like Chinese water torture, one drop at a time.

This slow brainwashing was on display in Iowa this week when students from one high school apologized to another for wearing red, white and blue to a basketball game. Yes, you read that right. They apologized for wearing the colors of the American flag to a game.

Why would students from Valley High School need a mea culpa for a display of patriotism they routinely make throughout the year? Because at this particular game, they were playing Des Moines North High School, and North has some players who “are from refugee families.”

Some supporters of North were offended on behalf of those refugee families, seeing wearing the colors of our flag as, you guessed it, “racism.”

On Valley’s Facebook page, an alum named Ty Leggett wrote, “This is an example of BLATANT racism. ALL participating should have been pulled and banned from ALL VHS extracurricular events for the remainder of the year! As a parent, I’d be mortified that my son or daughter thought this way, acted in this fashion and refrained from taking a stand against this 21st century inexcusable behavior!”

One would think, or at least hope, few would appreciate the unique greatness of the United States than those who fled their homeland to it. After all, if where they were was so wonderful, they wouldn’t be here.

But they are here, and not by accident. Once here as refugees, they aren’t going anywhere. On the pathway to citizenship, it is the obligation of refugees to assimilate into the American culture the way refugees and immigrants have in the past – to become Americans themselves. That’s not how it works anymore.

North assistant coach Morgan Wheat apparently doesn’t think so, telling a local TV station, “Any normal person, any educated person can look at that and think what the hell are these kids thinking.”

I guess I’m not “normal” or “educated” because I don’t wonder what they were thinking. I know what they were thinking: They live in the greatest country in the history of the planet and are proud of that fact. What I do wonder is how someone in a position of authority can be ignorant of those facts and remain in that position.

Were this New York, I’d yawn. But this happened to Iowa – which epitomizes Middle America. If it’s like this in Iowa, it’s a problem.

Left-wing indoctrination of children has metastasized in the heartland. That should serve as a wake-up call to Americans who don’t view our nation as history’s greatest evil and thought they were insulated from coastal insanity. They’re getting to your kids too.

If the infiltration of “flyover country” doesn’t set off alarm bells that proud Americans have to take seriously the threat progressive liberal ideology presents, nothing will. One day some of the kids currently being trained to view the United States as the problem, the root of all evil in the world, will be leading it. One just has to remember the last eight years to recall how well that worked out.
