Speaking of college...
My son is now 4 for 4 on the Virginia colleges to which he applied. However, I'm cautioning him to brace himself for next week. That's when the remaining schools announce their decisions and I'm expecting most or all to be rejections. They're just SO hard to get into that it's important to be realistic. We aren't donating a new wing, and Joey isn't the the former President's son... if he had a son.
Whatever happens, we're soon to begin the difficult job of picking one. William & Mary and UVA are two of the best in the country. They are also two of the eight "Public Ivies," which I gather means something to certain people. I don't know how Joey can say no to UVA's wonderful offer. As an Echols scholar, his entire requirement to take General Education classes would be waived by the school. Think about that. He'd only have to take the classes for his major and classes that interest him. Of the 120 credits needed to graduate, he'd be coming in with nearly 40 from his high school AP classes. UVA is offering him their best dorm, special library privileges, priority class selection for his entire school career, the opportunity to create a project of his own choosing and get the school to fund it, and more. William and Mary is probably more prestigious than UVA, and their offer to him is almost as good. VCU is a decent school, and it's offering him a four year free ride.
It's easy to get caught up in all of this. On the other hand, the decisions yet to come from nine other schools might be game changers. Except for NYU, they're ALL exciting schools. (We no longer care about NYU. We originally applied because Joey's cousin went there. But their decision, coming next week, is no longer of interest to us.)
I'll let you know how it goes.
