De,
As I recall, back between the liberation of Kuwait
and the invasion of Iraq there were a number of
articles telling me that saddam Hussein was buying
'dual use technology' . . . Particularly pesticide
manufacturies that could be tweaked to turn out a
credible nerve agent.

I remember my newspaper telling me that saddam Hussein
could have re-constituted his chemical weapons programs
within months of an American withdrawal.

Sure, why would we destroy a pesticide manufacturing plant?

But, the first problem is would ISIS have the technical
expertise to run a pesticide plant AND 'tweak' it to
get a weapons grade agent? And if they had why have
there not been multiple stories of ISIS using nerve agents?

Second problem, all these articles (that I've seen so far)
claim the terrorists 'acquired' them by capturing them
in Iraqi or Libyan or Syrian ammo dumps . . . But these
dumps are all well over ten years old (past sarin shelf
life) and the Iraqi and Libyan dumps would have been
checked over and neutralized by UN or American inspectors.

It reeks of yet another fake news attack. Two prongs.
Biggest prong is the Russians and assad trying to claim
that 'the rebel / ISIS/ terrorists did it. Second
prong, much smaller, would be the democrats conveniently
forgetting their 'Iraq had no WMD's meme' to try to claim
Trump got fooled by the terrorists. (Remember, any
Republican President MUST be found wrong - no matter
what they do.)

Zim.

re: "What was the shelf life of Sarin gas?"

Mere months. But, then, if ISIL possessed Saddam's chemical weapons plant, what was deployed need not have been stockpiled chemicals.

Which then begs some other questions: Why would Saddam have destroyed all of his chemical weapons while leaving a plant intact? And why isn't this plant big news now that it's back in our hands?
