re: The March of Tyranny

That's exactly what I like about Donald Trump. He isn't really a Democrat and he isn't really a Republican - and so he scares the heck out of the establishments of BOTH parties.

For the past century, any time voters were discouraged with the direction of the country, they'd elect the other party's nominee. Back and forth, back and forth - or step by step, as your cartoon shows - with BOTH parties ultimately winning. If you were in charge of the party that was out of power, no problem. In a few years, you could be assured of being back in. Thus, the Democrats and Republicans are a team. As I often put it, they are two sides of the SAME coin. One party. A Party of Ever-Growing Government.

But who succeeds Donald Trump? He's an outlier. His politics are pretty liberal, but he's a member of the G.O.P. In eight years, his successor could be a Republican OR a Democrat. And if the public likes what Trump does, they may even elect another outlier. This is an unspeakable horror for the Party of Ever-Growing Government. By the time Donald Trump leaves office, many of them could be out of work. By the time a second outlier leaves office, they'll all be gone. Their lock on the U.S. government will have ended.

Unemployed political operatives! Who'd have thought it possible? It's a wonderful thing.

“Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is the numbers of people all over the world who have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience… Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world, in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves, and all the while the grand thieves are running the country. That’s our problem… people are obedient, all these herdlike people.” — Howard Zinn
