Perry to Trump: Don’t Ditch the Paris Climate Deal
U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry on Tuesday said he would like for President Trump to stay in the Paris accord on climate change and work for a reworking of the deal.
“I’m not going to tell the president of the United States to walk away from Paris accord,” he said at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance conference in New York. “I will say that we need to renegotiate it.”
During his presidential campaign, Trump had repeatedly vowed to scrap the environmental deal negotiated among 190 nations in 2015. Perry additionally chastised Germany for allowing its emissions to increase: “Don’t sign an agreement and expect us to stay in if you’re not really going to participate and be a part of it,” he said. “We need to renegotiate it. They need to get serious.”
