No. There is a huge difference between going electronic because you want to and going electronic because you must. For one, in a cashless society, investigators could safely argue that items in your possession but not recorded in government databases were likely obtained through nefarious means. For another, authorities in a cashless society could use its data to map your life with an assurance that there are no gaps. A third example? In a cashless society, government could prevent transactions from taking place. If they wanted to limit gasoline purchases to 10 gallons per citizen per week, they could cap purchases at that amount.

The number of ways that TPTB could abuse a cashless system to the detriment of The People is without limit. On the positive side, it would have totally screwed over the Clintons.

Question for the cashless society topic.

If one exclusively uses their credit/debit card to purchase and pay for things they want, or include just having automatic deduction of a monthly bill from your account, would that not be same as not using cash???
