Board name: Survivor (SURVIVOR)
Board owned by: atomicbob Board Moderators: pisaster, smckay, The_Master_1, Riana Date Created: Wed, 17 Sep 03 1:06 PM Total Posts: 1 Average Posts per day: 1 Board category: None/Other Board info, rules and other information: The rules of the game The purpose of this competition is to survive as long as practical with your very own selection of a stock that you think will have the largest percentage gain (or as the case may be, the least percentage loss) during the next week. One and all, adults and children alike (as long as 13 or over) are free to enter the game before the start of the first week. The game lasts 4 weeks. On a daily basis, percentage gains/losses will be calculated and posted. At the conclusion of every week, the losing players will be eliminated. The number of eliminated players depends on the total number of players. If we have less than 9, 1 player will walk the plank per week, 9 to 12 players, 2 will be eliminated, 12 to 15 players, 3 will be booted, 16 to 19 players, 4 will get the boot. Every week every contestant must pick one stock. You may play either long or short on that stock, however, a shorted stock must trade over $5 at the Monday market bell to be eligible. Tradeable index vehicles (e.g., the QQQ) are allowed, but options are not. There are no price limitations on the stock selection, but the stocks should be listed on either the NYSE, Nasdaq, Amex, or OTC:BB. No foreign exchanges. If you choose a low volume stock, note that it must trade each day of the contest or you walk the plank. If three players were going to be eliminated in a given week, and someone gets disqualified for zero volume, one contestant is spared at week's end and only two will be eliminated. Note....Immunity cannot save you from death by volume. Holding "cash" is also allowed, but NOT in week one. After week one, if one thinks it would be better to not pick a stock investment but to stay in cash one could post "cash." Stock picks must be posted at the Atomicbobs.com SURVIVOR board prior to market open on Monday morning (or Tuesday when the market is closed on Monday). Copied picked are allowed, i.e. more than one contestant picking the same stock however.... No repeats are allowed in Week 4 ... we don't want no stinkin' ties! First come, first served. If a player's pick is carried over from one week to the next and the player announces that prior to the close of the last trading day in that week (e.g., Friday), the pick will use the closing price of that last trading day (e.g.,Friday close) as the starting point for the next week. A Monday gapper is not penalized for carryover picks. Every "pick" post for the Survivor contest must start with "Survivor". If an opponent is not able to post a stock pick, his/her stock pick of the previous week will automatically be appointed. To enter the immunity challenge players must also include a prediction for the closing price of the selected index (Dow Jones, Nasdaq, AMEX or S&P 500) the next Friday. The contestant whose prediction is the closest to the index closing price on Friday will receive immunity for that week, i.e. (s)he can not be eliminated. If one forgets to post the prediction one can not receive immunity. Immunity guesses do not transfer from week to week like a pick does. Each week, the winner will choose the immunity index for the following week. If the winner fails to choose an index for some reason, the index will default to the S&P 500. The deadline for picking the index is Sunday at noon. Back to those that are eliminated: The player(s) with the lowest percentage gain will be eliminated. In case of a tie, the immunity prediction will decide who will be eliminated. The percentage gain is calculated by the opening price (At 9:30 a.m., not pre-market) of the first day of trading for that week (i.e., typically Monday). The final winner of the contest is the contestant who has the highest percentage gain (or the lowest percentage loss if every contestant has a loss) at the end of the final (4th) week. The winner of the contest receives as a prize, the right to a fancy new name in the following Survivor contest. It is important to note that each of the 4 weeks is separate in the contest. For instance, the percentage gain or loss in week 3 is only from the start of week 3 and not since the start of week one. You are able to select a new stock every week. The first weekend is the only time to enter the contest. Have a great time! Here is a list of past winners!!
